Turbine and journal bearing re-babbitting

A worn or wiped babbitt layer does not mean a new bearing. We strip, re-pour and machine the white-metal lining of your existing shells — turbines, generators, motors, pumps, fans and compressors — and return them inspected and ready to install, typically at 20–30% of the price of a new part.

Turbine and journal bearing re-babbitting

What we repair

  • Steam and gas turbine journal bearings
  • Generator and electric motor bearings
  • Pump, fan and compressor bearings
  • Split shells and solid bushings
  • Bearings with oil grooves, pockets and jacking-oil ports
  • Bores from 100 to 3000 mm, parts up to 5 t

How we do it

  1. 01

    Incoming inspection

We measure the shell, map defects and check the steel backing before any work starts.

  2. 02

    Removal and tinning

The old babbitt is melted out, the base is cleaned and tinned to ensure a full metallurgical bond.

  3. 03

    Casting

A new layer is cast from our own alloy — static or centrifugal, depending on size and geometry.

  4. 04

    Machining

Bore, grooves and joint faces are machined to your drawing or to the original dimensions.

  5. 05

    Inspection and report

UT bond test, dye penetrant inspection and alloy analysis; a dimensional report ships with the bearing.

Frequently asked questions

How long does re-babbitting take?

Typically 10–15 working days from receipt of the bearing, depending on size and quantity.

Which babbitt alloys do you use?

Tin-based and lead-based grades: B83 and B16 (GOST), ASTM B23 Grades 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8, and ISO 4381 alloys such as SnSb12Cu6Pb and SnSb8Cu4. If your OEM specifies a grade, we match it.

How do you confirm the bond quality?

Every bearing is checked by ultrasonic bond testing and dye penetrant inspection, and the alloy composition is verified. You receive a report with the part.

What should I send for a quote?
